Avatars United
I’m still in Finland. Still on a crappy old laptop that doesn’t like Second Life.
But lately things have begun calming down IRL … kind of. I at least have a few hours available again now and then.
So I have begun visiting SL again. I spoke to Ryan a few days ago, and he doesn’t mind if I want to start reviewing again for Men’s Second Style. If I run into any good men’s stuff, I probably will do so.
Apart from that, I spend most my time in SL hanging out with my friends. That means a lot of the time, with Rosie.
Though it’s not all I do. I’ve been modeling for Booperfunk a little. And shopping. I finally spent money on SL again this week, for the first time since early January.
Finally, I read today on Vint’s blog about the Avatars United website. I used to not really enjoy social networking sites in the past. But my time here in Finland as an Erasmus student has given me a new sense of appreciation for a site like Facebook.
Anyway, this Avatars United is advertised kinda like a virtual world facebook. I made profiles for Daman and my two alts.
So far I only dislike two things:
- I uploaded two pics. Only one is showing up. Why?
- I can only set my native language to whatever shows up in a scrolldown box. This box reads your nationality by your IP adress. So I can only choose English, Finnish or Swedish. This sucks for anyone not residing in their native country, or who use a proxy.
And finally, I know there’s a blogger strike going on now. So what better time to return to blogging?
*waits for the rotten tomatoes to start flying*

Is there a blogger strike going on? =d
I think the reason for the languages English, Swedish and Finnish is that that’s the only supported languages at the moment. Not sure thou, I’m in sweden and got the same chooses. The first time I used upload as well I given only one image up but other times it worked, the guys behind sounds nice and answers all feedback I have so far personally.
Yay you are back! I’ve missed your blog
Ok. The languages are possible that way. LOL
I thought it was because I was in Finland.
ABout the picture, the guy told me in email the reason.
If the file extension is in capital letters, it doesn’t work. You have to rename the file to have a extension in small font
It’s a Swedish company behind the site, Sweden have Swedish and Finnish and Sami as official languages.
Hi guys,
Cool to see some SL’ers sign up at AU.
We have just fixed the image upload bug. Now you should be able to upload images with uppercase extensions as well.
As for the language settings, we only support English, Finnish and Swedish for the time being. We will be adding more choices in the future.
Cheers,
Jacob@AU
/me heads quickly over to make a profile.
Sweden have Swedish and Finnish and Sami as official languages.
Yeah, that’s where I made the error.
Those languages are the official languages of the country I’m staying in as well.
So I thought that it gave me only those choices, because I was in Finland. Not because those were the languages it was available in. I didn’t know it was a Swedish company.
Thanks for all the help though
WB…I’ve missed you too. I can imagine how you feel…I’m on a crappy laptop myself. I have to find enough money for some better stuff soon. Now I run SL with all preferences in low and draw distance 64. awwww…..I can hardly see any details.
